Best Fountain of Rome
Among all of the fountains Trevi fountain was really different for me. It’s the biggest but aside from that it has a feature that makes you want to sit there and look at it. it was one of 1,352 fountains in 4th century Rome. After a prolonged closure while it was being refurbished by the fashion house, Fendi (who reportedly spent a cool $2.2 million), the fountain has just reopened better than ever. one fun fact about this fountain is that it is mostly built from travertine stone, a name that means “from the Tiber” in Latin which is the same stone as Colosseum. A mineral made of calcium carbonate formed from spring waters, especially hot springs, the likely source was the city of Tivoli, about 22 miles from Rome. During construction many men were injured and a few died when working with enormous stone, including a stonecutter who was crushed by a large block of travertine in 1734.
My jet-lag helped me to get there at 5 in the morning and get as many pictures as I wanted. I also had a chance to just sit down there and enjoy the sound for an hour which was really refreshing. By the way, it was really safe there since the Police car was constantly there making sure no one do any sort of crime which was really assuring.
Part of “New world 7 Wonder” List
After walking around Rome for two days, I figured Rome is not like any other city. It’s a big museum. Every corner, every street has an ancient story behind it. Now I totally understand why it’s called an open-air museum! It is a living, breathing example of art and history and it’s no surprise it boasts one of the largest collections of art, sculptures and ancient relics in the world. When it comes to museums, everyone has their own tastes. And for those of you looking to feed your eyes and soul with art and history, you’ve come to the right place. Rome is just one of those cities that offers something for everyone and in the area of museums, is no different.
The most beautiful part of this museum is Colosseum which is still an iconic symbol of Imperial Rome and is listed as one of the “new 7 wonders of the world”. If you’re looking to get an inside tour of Colosseum, make sure that you buy tickets online way ahead of time since it gets sold out really fast and you have to stand in a long line if you don’t buy it online. in case it was sold out online you can get one of the Colosseum tours and you get to skip the line with those too.
Unfortunately, I didn’t know that and didn’t buy the tickets online and also all the tours were sold out that day so I didn’t get to get an inside tour of Colosseum!
Traditional Italy
Colorful Trastevere is a funky, bohemian area that clings to its centuries-old, working-class roots. It’s known for traditional and innovative trattorias, craft beer pubs and artisan shops, as well as simple B&Bs and budget hotels. From the pre-dinner passeggiata (promenade) until late, a young crowd buzzes around Piazza di San Calisto and Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere, the site of a gilded, mosaic-filled church.
This area by far was my favorite since not only you can experience a real traditional italian food and in my opinion best food that I’ve had in Rome so far but also you get to see all of these cute and traditional streets that you see in movies. It kinda reminds me of a similar area in Paris (you’ll read more about it when I shared my Paris Blog).
For me best part of any travel is when I get to shop little souvenirs and little stuff that are related to that area so that when I look back at it, it reminds me of that trip. I guess I might have bought too many of them on this trip though!
I’m just in love with the architecture and look of this neighborhood, the orange undertone of some of the walls, the floor everything about it.
Now let’s talk about the food in Trastevere. If you’re looking for really good and traditional italian food, you have to go to Trastevere. Specifically try Nannarella in the middle of Trastevere. The environment and the vibe of the restaurant is really nice especially the service is really good. Aside from all of that all the pasta dishes are served in these steel pans which was really different and unique. The food was beyond my expectation.
After all I enjoyed Rome a lot especially the second day. The food was really different and delicious. If you’re traveling to Rome don’t forget to eat Carbonara, Tiramisu and Gelato and drink Aperol Spritz or Negroni. Definitely don’t miss out on Trastevere and early morning for Trevi fountain.
I visited Rome for only 1 day and half but if you want to spend more time on each item 3 days is a good amount of time to do that.
